What you will need:
- Canvas at least 8in by 6in
- Black Shapie
- 6 to 8 different tempera paint bottles
- White cards
- Pens and pencils
We did this activity as a group. The children sat and played adjective tag. One child was “it”. They gave an adjective that described another child and then told the child they were “it”. The child receiving the adjective said “thank you” and wrote the adjective on their piece of paper. For example: “Emma you are friendly, tag your it”. Emma then said “thank you” , wrote “friendly” on her paper and then she was it. The game continued until all the children had 6 to 8 adjectives that described them.
After the game was over, I passed the canvas with already “waved lines” marked with pencil. Children painted each layer using different tempera paints. We let the canvas dry for a day before writing the compliments they received using black sharpie marker.
This art activity was very special as you can see how girls felt appreciated and proud of who they are.
