This green lava flowing from a small squash was soooo… exciting to create!
Materials Needed:
- Small Squash
- Vinegar
- Baking soda
- Liquid dish soap
- Food coloring(optional)
- Knife for craving
- Spoon to remove seeds
Start by cutting a hole in the top of the squash…. children enjoyed the idea of having a small pumpkin easy to carve. You can get any kind. I also saved the pumpkin seeds for a later project to make a Fall Tree with colored pumpkin seeds.
Next remove all the seeds, messy but fun! this is a good practice for “carving pumpkin exercise” as well as a good sensory play.
Pour vinegar into the squash unitl it is about 3/4 full. Add a few drops of food coloring and liquid dish soap.
Add 2 Tablespoons of baking soda and step back from the eruption!
Children enjoyed doing this over and over again, adding their own combinations.
